Located on the charming R. da Sra. da Luz in Porto, Moreira is a delightful café that offers a warm and authentic local experience. This unpretentious spot is perfect for anyone looking to savor traditional Portuguese café treats in a relaxed, friendly environment. Moreira’s menu highlights a wonderful variety of options that cater to diverse cravings—from the rich, aromatic Café to the hearty Francesinha, a beloved Porto sandwich layered with meats, melted cheese, and a savory tomato-beer sauce that tantalizes both the eyes and palate.
Beyond the signature Francesinha, the café impresses with a selection that includes the sweet and comforting Queque (muffins), praised as some of the best by longtime patrons, and the unique Porto Branco, a drink that beautifully balances sweet and fruity notes typical of the Douro region. For those seeking a lighter bite, dishes such as Plat de Frites Et Olives alongside the savory Hamburger Fromage Jambon offer satisfying options that highlight fresh, quality ingredients with simple but effective preparation.
The ambiance at Moreira feels distinctly local and inviting. Customers consistently highlight the café’s charming terrace, ideal for soaking up Porto’s vibrant street life while enjoying your coffee or meal. The interior is clean and tidy, featuring pavement seating that perfectly suits casual socializing or a quiet pause during a busy day. Although some have noted the waiter can come across as a bit reserved, this only adds to the authentic, old-style café charm—as if you’ve stepped into a cherished neighborhood institution rather than a tourist spot.
One frequent visitor describes taking a break here with a Prego sandwich—simple yet satisfying at just 4 euros—paired with a sweet white port, crafting a genuine taste of Portuguese hospitality and tradition. Moreira feels less like a flashy seafront bar and more like a genuine slice of Porto life, where good value meets good company and quality, homemade fare.
In all, Moreira is a heartfelt homage to Porto’s café culture. Whether grabbing a coffee on the terrace, indulging in their legendary muffins, or sampling a rich Francesinha, you’ll find both comfort and a sense of place in this humble yet memorable café. It’s a spot that invites you to slow down, savor every bite and sip, and experience the local spirit in every detail.
I love to have a coffee on the terrace. Prices are fair. Waiter is a bit grumpy. Butt all fine and good atmosphere.
Nice little café as Ic and Flic head back for the tram back to Porto. Good value simple business. Had a Prego!?? ( ham n beef buttie) only 4€ (but long way from a Madeira prego) and a toastie 3€ Had a pausé from beer...so tried a sweet white port..we think. Very nice..Clean and tidy interior with road facing pavement seating. More of a locals café than seafront bars. Good toilets.
Simple old style coffee shop specialized in muffins - simply the best muffin on earth.
